Summer Camp Newquay July 2007
As forecast the weather was a mix of wind and wind with gusts and heavy breeze, with almost moderate gales at times! That said, although uncomfortable, the two large tunnel tents held up well albeit with a few extra guys for good measure. The trusty Vango stood as solid as a rock, unlike the skeggy beach windbreak that snapped three of it’s poles like toothpicks! It was hammered in more and more each day, and by the end of the week it was only nine inches tall!!!
For a town campsite, rowdiness was at a minimum. Showers, toilets, shop, etc were all good. The Minack Theatre was great and well worth for the view alone even if there’s no play on.
Days were spent making breakfast, eating cream teas, walking, eating more cream teas and hammering stuff further into the ground! Also discussing stuff like the correct way to serve cream tea (see comments page for Jayne’s research and the link) and getting used to other peoples social habits around the campsite!
Overall, Eden Project 6/10 (better if you like plants!), Newquay Zoo 3/10 (not the best!), Minack Theatre 8/10, little seaside towns with tea shops serving cream teas 9/10, hillside walking 9/10, damming 10/10! All made the week a general success and thanks to most who attended.

Our first offical Camp Marque Camp!
In our offical Camp Marque t-shirts below!
Winter Man Camp - 2nd-4th November, Keswick & Hawkshead Tony, Stacey, George, Jayne, & Jon Minutes of Campmarque.co.uk meeting held Sunday 28 October Present: Tony, Stacey, Jayne, George, Dave, Jon (Absent-without apology!) The meeting was due to commence at 8.30 pm – but due to late arrivals (Dave!) it was delayed until 8.40 pm. Point of order: Could all members please note that in order to keep their license valid, timekeeping is of paramount importance. Late arrivals and no-shows will not be tolerated. Following (for a change) a brief discussion, it was decided that we would meet at The Snipe at 11.30 am on Friday 2 November, for a prompt departure at 12.00 noon. The route to be taken will be A38, A50, M6 with a stop for light refreshments at Lancaster Services (otherwise known as “Cow Camp” Services to Jayne and George – don’t ask!!) Anticipated journey time 3 hours 20 minutes exclusive of stop. Post code for SatNav purposes CA12 5EP Map Reference 89-NY258234. Shopping and equipment list discussed. Stacey is to purchase food (breakfasts) for the weekend – cost to be divided in due course. It was agreed between Stacey and Jayne who would bring which equipment – stoves/pans/kettles, etc. All participants to take minimum of two bottles of test beer – so that hopefully we can have a beer tasting session each evening (if they last that long!!) First evening we will retire to local hostelries for refreshment and food – and likewise this will be the same format for the Saturday evening – no point in changing a proven formula! Saturday activities – plan to do a walk from Keswick possibly incorporating a launch on the lake. Departure time on Sunday will be very much dependent on how much alcohol was consumed the evening before, what time we have breakfast and how efficient we are in packing up. There being no other business the meeting concluded just in time for us to do the Pub Quiz. Breakfast on day one in Keswick..... ...breaskfast on day two in Hawkshead Well, a quick report on Winter Man Camp 2007 Only different in the fact that we moved camp, it was a sort of tight two-centre holiday really. First night was at a Keswick campsite right next to Derwent Water. A lovely setting but tents were only allowed in the back field away from the priceless view of the mere (Cambric for lake!!) Keswick itself was good with the great choice of pubs, cafes and camping shops. Saturday was a short drive to our next campsite in Hawkshead. And, because it was close to 5th November, we saw the free fireworks display, followed by a few pints and a nice meal (although service crap!). Hawkshead is lovely for ½ a day. We has two test beer sessions, brought a crap plane which did not work, and as temperature was hovering around freezing no medals this time!
