My first camp – the beginning!
By Alexandra – the girlist of all campers!

This is s story about camping from my point of view. From packing to dozing off in the car! You’re nervous but excited and you’ve not got a clue what you’re letting yourself in for! But once Dad’s packed up the truck, there’s no turning back!

So, we really are setting off, I was ready (on time!!) and the car was packed - I thought we’d be on the road for most of the day but we were there within two hours. As we unpacked the truck it was clear there was more beer any anything else!! Anyway, as we put up the tent all I kept thinking was ‘never in my life had I seen so many zips’!! Lets just say there’ll be no need for an alarm clock.

Well, I must admit, I was kinda nervous at first but now I was there it wasn’t so bad! It was actually quite fun! So what if I’d turned the tent girly? All the storage pockets were filled with lip gloss and hair bobbles, magazines that were open at the fashion pages and of course, my pink torch!!

As it started to get dark, the ‘kitchen’ was set up. Just picture this: we’re in some field, cold, walking like zombies with our arms out because we can’t see anything and to top it off Dad and Dave don’t know how to use the camping stove. Luckily, Stacey had some lantern light up thingy’s so we could see them trying to figure it out. When they finally did, we sat down to chicken fajitas. Not exactly what I think is proper ‘camping food’ but who cares? When we finished dinner, we faced our next challenge - washing the pots! Dah Dan Daaaaannn! Nah just joking but it was hard. Me, Stacey and Linbo clambered across the next field, hanging onto our torches, clattering our dirty pots as we tried to find our way to the wash room. When, all of a sudden, light! Light at the end of the ……..field! After we’d washed the pots, going back to the tents seemed much easier then coming from them. When we got back, Dad had set up the portable DVD player and put the chairs in a semi-circle around it. We all sat with blankets around us, passing biscuits and chocolate round while we watched Shrek on a teeny tiny screen!

So, the first day was kinda fun. We had other fun stuff planned too – the beach, shopping centres, river boats trips. It was gonna be fun, I could tell!

To be continued…..
